I made this burlap tablecloth a few years ago and posted about it over a year ago but never did a tutorial on it. Oops! I'm always spotting tablecloths like this at Pottery Barn and I've asked them if they sell them and they do not! They only use them for their display tables. Well, I guess I have to make one myself. That's okay, it will cost next to nothing!
So here is how I made it!
1. To start with, get some natural burlap fabric and wash and dry the fabric at least 2-3 times to shed the loose fibres.
2. Cut the fabric the diameter as the table with an extra inch for seam allowance.
3. Next, pin the side panel around the cut fabric. Luckily the width of my burlap fabric was roughly the same height as my table!
4. Next measure the length you want it to hang adding an extra 2 inches for the hem. Then cut it all around the bottom.
5. Sew the pieces together just where you've pinned it. It's a bit of a challenge to to sew. Once you have the top sewn together, sew the side seams (if you have any). I had two side seams.
6. The final step is to hem the bottom. Fold 1/2" inch over and iron. Fold again another 1/2" over and iron {this keeps the hem line in place so it's easy to sew!}. Then stitch the ironed hem in place. Iron the whole tablecloth and you're done!
It will still wrinkle but at least it doesn't shed its fibres. I love it and you can't tell that there's an old metal table underneath ;)
