Craft Cabinet – If You Don’t Have a Craft Room

Turn a cabinet into a ‘craft cabinet’ if you don’t have a craft room!

Make a Craft Cabinet - So Much Better With Age

Do you have a craft room? I have an office area but not a craft room. When I do DIY projects and crafts, it’s nice to have it all in one convenient spot.

Since I seem to do the majority of my home decor projects on the main floor of my house, I decided to turn an unused cabinet into a craft cabinet! Now I can gather craft supplies conveniently.

Let me show you how I organized my craft cabinet.

A before shot of the cabinet.

This wooden cabinet I’ve had for years and it was used as a TV cabinet but then I added a shelf in the middle and stained it to match the rest.

The problem I find is that the cabinet is very dark and it’s actually hard to see stuff that is in the back of it.

I thought painting it would be a great solution and since I didn’t want to paint the outside I just painted the inside to brighten it up.

I primed the inside of the cabinet with with one coat of my favourite primer then two coats of some leftover cream paint that we used to paint the interior walls of our house.

Painting the inside of the cabinet white.

I have some fabric folded on the top shelf.

Baker’s twine and twine in a metal basket, my hot glue gun with jars of hot glue sticks and a basket of more craft supplies on the second shelf.

On the third shelf, I have basket of ribbon, my alphabet stamps and a big metal basket with Paris gift tags and kraft gift bags.

The bottom shelf has Mod Podge, a basket holding scrapbook paper sheets and some stencils.

Craft baskets with supplies inside.

The baskets close up on the shelves in the cabinet.
There are glasses with art supplies in them.

When the doors to the cabinet are closed, no one knows that my craft supplies are hidden inside.

The cabinet door closed.

So if you don’t have a craft room or you’d like to keep some gift bags and handy supplies close at hand, maybe you can turn a cabinet into your own craft cabinet.

Make sure to pin it for later!

  2. Awesome cabinet and organization of your craft items, Jamie! I don’t have a craft room either so for now I’m storing all my crafting goods in a roll top desk that wasn’t being utilized. Not sure what I’m going to do once I outgrow that…maybe buy a cabinet?

    1. Thanks so much, Selene!! If you don’t have room for a cabinet, maybe a closet? I had bins everywhere. So glad it has a place now.
      Have a great weekend!
      Hugs,

  3. I have a creative space, not an entire room, but I can always use ideas like your cabinet.

Are you sharing at My Desert Cottage on the 12th for Where Bloggers Create?

    I think you should.

    1. Aww thanks for your sweet comment, Jillian! I’m sure it’s not going to look this pretty for too long but at least it’s a start 😉
      Have a great weekend!

  4. Beautiful cabinet. I am losing my craft room soon, it was too good to be true, but I guess little people need rooms too. I am trying to figure out how to organize my supplies in our dining room. I think an armoire like this would be prefect.
    Thanks for sharing.

    1. When we moved into this house, we had a spare room that was going to be for baby no.2. I didn’t even use it as a craft room because I know I would have to transfer the stuff eventually. Baby no. 2 is a toddler now and it’s taken me that long to make some space for craft supplies. An armoire in your dining room is a great idea! No one needs to know what’s inside!

  6. I LOVE how this came out! Gorgeous. I love that you painted the inside to make it easier to see your crafting materials. Can’t wait to meet you at Haven! Thanks for sharing at Silver Pennies Sundays. x

  7. I love the way you painted the inside and left the outside wood…genius!! I pinned it to my “Awesome Furniture” board.

  8. Jaime,
I love your craft cabinet….oh….I cannot remember when I had a neat craft cabinet, i don’t think I ever have in my entire life! My studio is overflowing with craftiness….when people come to borrow things my hubby tells them they can only borrow if they promise not to bring it back!
I am SO proud of your craft cabinet, maybe I should set a goal to reduce mine to the size of one armoire…..(You should see how many armoire’s I just got to use for MORE storage! It is pathetic! I know!
    Hearts to you,
    Betsy

    1. Thanks for your sweet comment, Betsy! I can only imagine I’ll grow out of this in no time but I’m enjoying the prettiness while it lasts 😉 Thank you so much for stopping by!

  9. This is beautiful Jamie! I came over from Ann at ‘On Sutton Place’ and the Pinterest party. I know I’ve been here before too cause I remember the name. I also realized that we are using the same theme for our blogs! How fun – it’s so cool to see what you did with it. I never would have even noticed they are the same theme if I hadn’t noticed the little yellow leaf favicon on the tab. I stared at that a long time when I was creating my blog and trying to get that changed to my own photo! I love your look!

    1. It’s too funny Jill, because I hadn’t seen your blog for awhile too and used to frequent it all the time. I TOTALLY recognized your same theme, when I just popped by, haha. I have yet to change everything over. Apparently a new update is coming soon so I don’t want to change everything quite yet. I’m going to go to subscribe to your blog now so I don’t miss anything again!
      Hugs,
      Jamie

  10. I need to do this in my dining room with my sewing stuff cause I always end up hauling my sewing machine down to the dining room table….it has the best lighting and a big table. Great idea and use of space and that cabinet is beautiful! I’m also digging the new look of your blog.

    1. Mine was totally all over the dining room table too. My table is almost completely cleared 😉 Thanks so much for your sweet comment!

  11. LOVE your armoire. Ooooh, I want one of those! So versatile. My husband has given/allowed me a decent-sized space on our landing just for ME!!! I am very excited and your post has inspired me to make it super pretty (and organised). 😀

    1. The prettiness has totally got me inspired to “craft” now. Nothing worse than rummaging through bins to find something and realize you may or may not have 3 of the same time! Thanks so much for stopping by!
      Hugs,
      Jamie

  12. I LOVE this organized craft space – it’s perfect!! And I also love the “Ta Daaaa” little guy too. So sweet.

  15. So pretty! Thanks for sharing with us at Create & Inspire! So, I do have an office/craft room. But I still need to organize it and I have a large armoire that currently just holds a TV. This post makes me want to empty it out – paint the inside – and get to using it better!

  16. I’m featuring your post shortly on my blog which includes a round up of creative workspaces, studios and craft rooms–thank you so much for sharing it with me, this is PERFECT. I am in LOVE with French-Industrial decor which is the direction I’m hoping to go in my home. I’m doing some space planning for a possible studio, but right now I’m in the same boat as you.I love out of the box thinking, and I most especially love the natural wood. Such a gorgeous blog, it’s great to meet you!

    1. Jeannette! Thank you so much. It’s nice to ‘meet’ you too! And you love of French/industrial decor? That’s awesome! Let’s chat again soon 😉
