House Tour ~ Summer Showcase of Homes

Come see my beautiful house tour!

House Tour poster.

I’m so excited to be a part of this AMAZING Summer Showcase of Homes Tour!

2013 Showcase of Homes poster.

I’m sure you were just drooling over at Jenna’s house!  {Rain On A Tin Roof}

In case you’ve never dropped by before, I’m Jamie from So Much Better With Age. I have two beautiful kids and a studly hubby. But I’m way more handy than him {just don’t tell him that!}. I love finding things that are inexpensive or free and making them beautiful. Welcome to my home! I want you to see how I changed my 80s home into something more vintage, more french!

A picture of Jamie leaning against a chair.

FOYER

Out with the old, in with the..um..old. Well, at least older looking than the 80s! We had all the flooring in the house redone, all light fixtures replaced, and painting, of course. And as much as I wanted to keep that wallpaper {yuck!}, it had to go.

A dark staircase with old carpet and banister.

I painted that old bench and made that burlap tablecloth. Yep, I’m not afraid to get my hands dirty with home projects.

The after picture of a light and bright staircase.

Notice the carpet on that landing in the foyer. Say what?

A look down into the foyer.

The after picture of the foyer with wood floors and it painted white.

LIVING ROOM

We had to take down that wall that leads into the family room. Peach granite? I painted it and whitewashed the fireplace..

The living room before with an old fireplace

We had built-in shelves made and a window seat. Yes, that’s an extremely large baby gate. I got to keep my kids corralled somehow.

The after picture of the living room all painted white, which a whitewashed fireplace.

 Oh yuck!

A bay window with carpeting and wood trim.

 Aww…so much better.

The living room all painted white with a cream coloured couch.

Buh-bye weird small stairs.

Small set of stairs and a brown rug.

After with wooden stairs and painted in between white.

The light and bright living room.

DINING ROOM

The dark and old dining room.

I must warn you about my dining room. It’s going to be completely transformed soon! Paint color, table makeover and other goodies. You must check back later to see how I’m doing with it!

A wooden dining room table with white chairs.

But for now I’ll let you look at it.

An upholstered chair with a cushion.

KITCHEN

Surprisingly, this older kitchen came with beautiful appliances and this granite countertop.

Old cabinets in the kitchen.

We painted the cupboards bright white, added glass inserts and new hardware.

The same cabinets painted white in the kitchen

A look at the lower cabinets painted white.

Kitchen Office

This little area was just screaming for a kitchen office.

Yellow dingy walls in the house.

Ta da!

Afterwards a white kitchen desk with cabinets.

You can read more about the transformation here:  Add An Office To Your Kitchen.

KITCHEN {Eating Area}

I’m not sure what the previous owners were thinking with that HUGE chandelier.

An old dining room table and chairs.

But then I did just go and get myself another huge chandelier in its place.

A new round table with white chairs in the kitchen.

Here are some more goodies in my kitchen you may want to check out.

POWDER ROOM

I know powder rooms don’t usually have a full bath but this bathroom is on our main floor and our bedrooms are all upstairs so I call it my powder room.

The old powder room picture.

Of course, every powder room deserve to be pretty!

The baby blue walls and black and white floors in the bathroom.

 Oh so 80s.

The 80's sink in the bathroom.

I always think four mirrors are better than one.

Updated sink and cabinets.

A freestanding tub in the bathroom.

LAUNDRY ROOM

{NEVER SHOWN THESE PHOTOS BEFORE!}

If you are an avid So Much Better With Age reader, then here are some goodies for you. Never before seen photos!

The coat room with a wooden bench.

Yep, I seem to need a crock in every room 😉  I even did a whole post on crocks!

A white coat room with purses and coats hanging up.

Um, did the previous owners know that those might not fit?

The washer and dryer and cabinets.

It’s okay, we fixed it. You just need to raise the lower cupboard, silly.

White washer and dryer and white cabinets.

I love our second {sneaky} back staircase.

The updated laundry room.

Orange?

French doors.

Hello white!

A beautiful deck off the master bedroom.

MASTER BEDROOM

So boring! I guess it’s a good thing we’re in the bedroom now as you may fall asleep looking at this room.

A master bedroom with yellowish walls and carpet.

 Now that’s better!

A neutral bed with updated carpet.

There is a white armchair in the corner of the bedroom.

MASTER ENSUITE

This master bedroom is HUGE! Like the size of an apartment! If you can believe it, this was part of the master bedroom  Totally unused space. So we made it into a grand master ensuite!

Arrows to the door to the bathroom.

This was the biggest overhaul done in our house and totally worth it!

KIDS’ BATHROOM

{NEVER SHOWN THESE PHOTOS BEFORE!}

More of the 80s!

The paint, tile and vanity are the same as the powder room. That’s how much I loved it!

  BABY GIRL’S NURSERY

Now this room doesn’t have a real ‘before’ photo. I guess when I first toured this house I thought it was so boring it didn’t warrant a picture. But I did snap a shot before I started decorating it!

Nursery before.

It was hands-down the funnest room to decorate!

After picture of the light pink nursery.

A white change table.

A white crib.

BASEMENT/CRAWLSPACE

Technically we don’t have a basement, just a crawlspace. But for a crawlspace it has a high ceiling. So just last year we transformed this unused junk collecting room into a playroom/man cave.

Basement crawl space.

  I know, amazing, right?

  4. Can you tell me about that beautiful rug in the living room? Thanks for sharing your house it’s really lovely.

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Deb. I got that rug from Pottery Barn probably two years ago. I needed a 9 x 12 foot rug and that was the only one they had in stock and it was on clearance. The only thing is because it’s wool it “sheds” a lot but since it’s been two years the shedding is not as bad. They seem to have rugs in the back that are on sale that aren’t on the floor so it’s a good idea to check with them. I got it for 50% off regular price.
      Have a great day!
