Family Room Before & After

I am sharing with you the before and after photos of my family room, with stunning results!

Crazy enough, I have never shown you before and after photos of my family room. Why you may ask?

Well, the kids play all the time in this room (even though they have a playroom in the basement) so it’s always in complete disarray. Toys are always everywhere and I’d like to have a comfy chair or two in there but we need the open space for the kiddos.

We need a lot of room to dance!

One of the most dramatic transformations in this room is the fireplace but it was actually a temporary fix (going on five years now) because we couldn’t afford what we really wanted to do to it which was have it completely redone!

But I spray painted it and it still seems to be working after all this time.

Let’s take a tour of the whole room, shall we?

Family Room Before and After

We took the wall down between the living room and family room. It opened the space up and made a world of difference to our whole main floor.

If we didn’t take that wall down, you’d only be able to enter the living room from the foyer and then it would never get used.

A before shot of the room with walls being taken out.

Now everything is lighter and brighter and of course there is easier access to the living room.

Here is the view of the family room from the living room.

The two heat ducts you see had to go so the two rooms upstairs now have their own electrical heaters.

Eww yuck. Such an outdated room!

The white built-in bookshelves add so much to this room.It helps to keep the room organized.

The cupboards below hold toys on one side and stereo components on the other.

Built in white book shelves flanking the fireplace.

I just have to say, this before is so ugly!

It just makes for a dramatic beautiful after picture.

The old yellowish dingy room.

We had the stairs redone and rounded them out.

The dresser I completely made-over is there on the right.

 Previous owner’s sad looking couch.

A love seat in the dining room.

I added some pop of color to our couch which gave it a beachy feel.

The new neutral couch with pops of blue.

You know how much I love my beachy decor. So much coastal charm!

So one more look in case you missed it (although I’m sure this is nothing to miss).

Amazing what some paint paint, flooring, and bookshelves can do to one space.

    1. I know, it is a bit strange but it’s only because we took down the wall in between the two rooms. The fireplace on the left (living room) currently doesn’t work. The one in the family room we replaced to a gas fireplace that we love. It heats both rooms.
      Thanks for stopping by 😉
