Weathered Tray
I have had this boring looking tray and used a weathering technique to make it look old and used.
I mentioned on Friday that I was off to my 20 year high school reunion. I survived!
It was a late night but tons of fun to catch up with old friends and classmates many of them I haven’t seen since high school.
You can check out some fun pics on Instagram.
I’m totally feeling ‘weathered’ from the weekend so what a great tutorial to share with you today, how to make a new tray look old by weathering it with a paint technique.
Weathered Tray
This is the little white tray before. I used it next to my computer and it held a little wire pen holder. Not the best idea since pen marks got everywhere on it!
I used a bunch of brown and grey paints to make the aging effect.
Black acrylic paint, Martha Stewart Arrowhead and Gray Wolf, Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Country Grey)
Using a chip brush, I layered on the different brown and greys not fully painting the entire surface.
Here is how it started to look with the paint on it.
For dimension, you want to make sure to add some black dabs of paint.
Once you brush it in, you won’t notice the black.
Have you ever painted something where you go over and over it until the paint almost dries and the brush becomes hard to pull through?
No?
Well, that’s how you’re going to paint it here. Just keep going back and forth with your paint brush almost pulling the paint off until you get your desired look.
Then to add a beachy element to it, I wrapped some twine around the handles hot gluing it in spots to secure it.
And there you have it. I think the tray looks great painted! Definitely a much needed improvement from the pen marks.
I looks perfect with some beachy glass buoys and my french glazed plant pot.
It’s also the perfect fit for holding my design magazines.
You gotta try this simple DIY project. I made it under an hour and I know you can too!
Be sure to come back tomorrow where I’ll share with you another tip from my Organized Blogger Series!
Love It !
Thanks girl 😉 xx
I love it!Thanks for sharing! : )
Thanks so much 😉
It’s fabulous.
And also – I love the little glass buoys! Where did you get them from?
Thanks girl. The buoys in the net are from Pottery Barn, the other ones are real, given to me as a gift 😉
