My Laundry Room – Before and After

Creating a laundry room that makes you want to do laundry is everything! Here are my before and after pictures of my laundry room renovation!

One of the most used rooms in our home has rarely been seen on my blog.

It’s the laundry room. Not a fun place but the update makes it all that better.

And the room is big which is awesome.

The original floor plan says this room was the office and the washer and dryer was a stackable in a hallway closet.

I’m so glad the previous owners made the ‘office’ into a laundry room.

And I’m sooooo glad it’s been renovated.

Here is the before. Yuck. Dated cabinets and dreary walls!

The cabinets were kept and just given a fresh coat of soft white paint and handles updated.

I had my cabinet guy take out one lower cabinet and move the washer and dryer to the cabinet side.

Then I had the pedestals removed from the washer and dryer and the cabinet and sink heightened.

Finally a black granite countertop was installed and I added this cool light fixture.

The cabinets were a good idea but I don’t get why the Washer and dryer were on this wall.

The washer and dryer in the corner of the room.

Hooks and shelf on the wall with a towel hanging on it and hampers are underneath it.

When I had the white subway tile installed in our kitchen recently, I had them installed in this laundry room too. Gorgeous.

On the black countertop there is a small green try with laundry items in it.

The upper shelves are painted white.

There is a wicker basket and a box of laundry soap on top of the upper cabinets.

A galvanized bucket is in front of the washer and dryer.

The opposite side of the room shows where to hang your coats.

Or sweat pants and electrical cords.

A small bench underneath hooks hanging on the wall.

So much better!

There’s so much storage for hats, mitts, umbrellas, shoes and coats now.

You might spy my distressed key holder (made from a wine crate) on that wall.

I love all the updates! It’s a joy to do laundry in here.

  1. Beautiful room! And so much more functional now! It is weird how the previous owners placed the washer dryer, it made no sense. I’m super jealous of your patio! We’re buried under snow in Ontario!

      1. Oh no!! Of course 🙂 I suppose I’ll have to try to recreate this myself — I just don’t think I can live without it now that I’ve laid my eyes on it.

Nice score! and thank you for replying!

        1. I know, such a score! Don’t you hate that when others can’t buy it? I wish I could say I found it online. My friend wants it too. It’s metal sides with cotton lining.

  2. Gosh, this room makes me so jealous! It’s gorgeous. I have always dreamed of one day making over my laundry room, but it’s definitely not a top priority. Maybe someday…for now I’m trying to get the rest of my house in order…painting like a maniac & making over our rooms project by project.

    1. Thanks so much, Erin. Yes, this room is never a top priority but once your other rooms are done hopefully you can get to this room.

  3. Wow that’s awesome! My laundry room is so tiny. And it’s in the most awkward place ( the way to get into the garage). It has a small closet and then the doorway to the garage and a doorway to close it off. So if your doing laundry you either have piles on the floor and can’t get to your garage or you have it smack in the middle of the floor and anyone coming to your house sees your sorted laundry! You literally open the doors to the dryer by accident trying to bring your groceries in! I would love a space like this, so roomy! Nice job!

    1. Oh I feel your pain, Kim. This is the first house where I’ve had a laundry room like this. It’s usually the kids’ dumping ground.

  4. Wow, Jamie! I’d love doing laundry in here too! I love the vintage laundry sign and the subway tile is gorgeous! Everything is, though! Where is your light fixture from? I love it!

    1. Hi Kendra,
Thank you so much. I bought the light fixture from National Builder Supply online but I noticed it’s not on their website right now. It’s a Feiss Cage Pendant. I added a link to the post now!

  5. This is stunning! I was wondering also where you purchased the light fixture? Also, are the cubbies custom built? I swoon over your blog often and this laundry room is no exception.

    1. Hi Laura,
The light fixture is Feiss. I bought it at National Builder Supply but they don’t sell it anymore. I added a new link in my post. The cubbies were custom built.

  6. Oh my goodness PURE goregouesness! *Swoon!* I’m definitely jelly of your space – I have a 1970s stacked set that’s shoved in an alcove right next to the garage door. Definitely dreaming of wide open spaces and a mudroom combo like yours! So inspired 🙂

  7. I don’t have a laundry room. Instead, I have a laundry area in our small garage. The “before” pics are on my blog right now. It was a nightmare. I am in the process of making over the area. I have pretty new front loaders, I’ve painted, and a bit more. Still, I “envy” (in a nice way) your beautiful space. It is amazing!!! Love!

  8. I have been looking for metal laundry tin like the one you have on the top of the cabinets for so long. Where did you find yours? I love the openness of your laundry room as well as the subway tiled wall and granite counter top. Some day I’ll get to my little laundry area.

    1. Hi Jeanette,

I added a link to my blog post. I originally bought it at National Builder Supply but they don’t have it online anymore. I hope this helps!
